Flavorful Finds: Expo West Flavors & Snacks

Apr 1, 2020Categories, Snacks

This is a recurring series of posts based on new products we find in the marketplace that are fun, different and FLAVORFUL!

Givaudan’s Marketing team was pretty disappointed when Expo West was canceled this year. It’s one of the highlight’s of our year. Since we couldn’t be there, we scoured the internet to find what companies were going to exhibit and how we might be able to get their delicious products. Just because we missed it doesn’t mean we have to MISS it! Here’s some of what we found:

Sweet Treats

Expo West Whoa Dough

I’m not someone with a sweet tooth, and I tend to stay away from any candy bars but this Whoa Dough: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bar was absolutely delicious! Gluten-free, plant-based, non-GMO and it was still sweeter and more filling than any candy bar I’ve had in recent memory. It was the perfect size and texture too.

Flavorful Crunch

I didn’t even know you could eat popped lily seeds until I dove into the delicious bag of Hopapops. These light snacks are gluten-free, soy-free, no trans fats, low calorie (yipee!), bursting with antioxidants and contain vitamins and minerals. I was skeptical but ended up loving these “mango habanero” flavored treats.

World Peas Peatos: Fiery Hot Crunchy Puffed Snacks is the functional snacking alternative to a flaming hot Cheeto. I had no idea that this was made of peas, which is sad since the world PEA is literally in the title – but they were just that good! Peatos are so crunchy, spicy and satisfying that it ranks among the best tasting junk food out there! Try their Indian masala flavor too. MMMMmm..

I next dove in to the Red Curry Coconut Chips from Red Rock Deli. The bag describes them as deli-style chips with red curry love and tempered cayenne pepper with a laidback coconut flavor. To be honest, I was disappointed with the intensity of the curry flavor, I wish the curry was stronger and made you understand you were eating CURRY. However, my wife loved them.

A Snack that Pops

Expo West Popcorn

My wife also tried this assortment of snacks and her favorite was Pipcorn Truffles. I thought they were the perfect blend of delicious and savory while still maintaining that light – but oh so premium – truffle flavor. These yummy snacks were featured on Shark Tank (which is one of my favorite shows) and can be found in most Whole Foods stores.

My Favorite of the Day: Jerky!

Expo West Banana Jerky

To round out my snacking adventure, I finished with the best treat yet, Wild Joy Good’s Banana Jerky. I had two flavors: Chipotle Lime and Ginger Teriyaki. Though both were quite good, nothing comes close to the Teriyaki. I am a big meat jerky eater, but this has changed the game for me. It tasted sweeter than any jerky I’ve had before and chewier (which I love!).

Wild Joy marinates their dried bananas in olive oil and apple cider vinegar, along with savory seasonings, for a snack that is free of excess ingredients and full of joy. Embarrassing to admit, but I’m eating my second bag of Ginger Teriyaki as I write this closing paragraph. *nom nom nom*
