Backyard Creations

Consumers are spending more time outside than usual this year – trying to stay sane and not feel cooped up because of COVID-19. So they’re getting creative with what they can make at home. One of the most popular concoctions are s’mores – and who doesn’t love the classic summer dessert? It has turned into quite a phenomenon and we see more and more retail products flavored like s’mores. Take a look at how consumers are getting creative with sweet goods and comfort bakery at home. There’s Oreo burgers, homemade 4th of July desserts, s’mores, and ice cream galore!

There are some foods that got attention during quarantine that hadn’t in several years: like soup, milk, and cereal. Cereal is the quick, convenient meal for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or midnight snack. It’s eaten by kids, college students, and tired parents alike. With many families home 24/7 and online schooling their kids, cereal has been thrust back into grocery carts and into the spotlight. Consumers have also been getting creative with making cereal out of other foods and using cereal in desserts.

Dessert for breakfast anyone?
I love cinnamon rolls and I would love to eat them for breakfast!
You’ve seen Twinkie, Oreo, and Nutter Butter cereal…now Funfetti! I’m eating this for breakfast on my birthday.

The PSL has landed!

It’s that time of year again. And apparently all fall and winter seasonal food and beverage products launch in August. I don’t know about you, but it was still 80 degrees in August where I live! But consumers can’t get enough. It’s not just PSL, either. It’s peppermint, gingerbread, pecan, and other traditional fall and winter seasonal flavors. International Delight released their Buddy the Elf-themed coffee creamers in July…July! We also saw Ben & Jerry’s release some winter-themed edible cookie dough bites (talk about comfort bakery products!) and Dairy Queen released their fall blizzard menu with pumpkin and caramel apple pie on the list. It’s no doubt consumers love their seasonal LTOs and fall and winter ones take the cake!
